Pubbed Layouts

As promised, I would also show you the other layouts that were published in the previous issue of Scrapbook Magazine. I used the Soup Staples collection from Jillibean Soup on both layouts. I {heart} the Soup Staples collection. So many colors to choose from, and perfect to match with any of the other Jillibean Soup collections.

The first layout is about Fleur. This picture was taken this summer. Next week she'll be turning 9, and I love to see how she is changing. Not only in looks, but also in the way she acts and the things she loves to do. She spends more time on her hair and clothes and is more aware of her appearance. She is not really interested in kids' music such as K3 and Kus (Belgian and Dutch girl bands) anymore, but loves to listen to the Black Eyed Peas, Pink and Lady Gaga. The layout is based on a sketch by Becky Fleck from her Scrapbook PageMaps book.

The Big Apple II and Jillibean Soup

This morning Eric and I met up with Kay. I was super excited to finally meet her in person. She is such a wonderful and lovely person, and her friendship is really special to me. The first stop on our ribbon tour was M&J Trimming. Wow.....that store is amazing. I have never seen so many - and I mean MANY - ribbons in one store in my whole life. I felt like a kid in a candy store.

I was a bit overwhelmed by the enormous collection of ribbon. I bought some beautiful ribbon, but really behaved myself. *wink* The picture below shows only a small part of M&J Trimming's ribbon collection.



We also went to Tinsel Trading and Hyman Hendler. I didn't buy any ribbon at Hyman Hendler, but they have some beautiful ribbon. I also bought ribbon online, so I think I have enough now. After the ribbon shopping Kay went back home, and Eric and I strolled around Fifth Avenue and went to the Apple store. If you are into Apple computers this store is THE place to be. Beautiful entrance, great store and very helpful and friendly personnel. Since we were close to Central Park we went down there for a walk. The park is beautiful, and the colors of the trees are amazing at this time of year. We walked back to Midtown via Broadway. We bought lunch at Subway, and ate our sandwich in a park. We then went back to the hotel to drop off our bags. Eric wanted to take some more pictures and went out on his own. My feet were pretty sore, so I stayed at the hotel. When Kay came over this morning she brought along a huge bag with goodies that I had ordered before I came over to New York. When I took all the boxes out of the bag I noticed another bag inside. I was completely surprised that it was from Kay. She made me this gorgeous box and it had some lovely gifts inside. Thanks so much, sweetie!



This evening we went for dinner at Ellen's Stardust Diner. A diner that features singing waitstaff. Kay recommended this place, and said it is a fun, crazy place to eat. And she was so right.....we loved this place and had a fab time.





After dinner we strolled around Times Square, and ended up at Rockefeller Plaza watching people skating at the famous skating rink. Eric also posted a few pictures on his blog, and will post more pictures tomorrow.

Today I also have 2 layouts to show that were posted on the Jillibean Soup blog. The first one is about my sweetheart. These pictures of Eric were taken by Florence Bavinck in September 2007. I really {heart} these pictures. We will soon have another photo shoot with Florence. This lay-out is inspired by Sketch #58 from Creative Scrappers.

Guest Designer @ Creative Scrappers

A month ago I was asked by Kristine Davidson from Creative Scrappers if I would be interested to be Guest Designer in August. I immediately said yes as I love to work with sketches. I do not only use card sketches, but also layout sketches. Sketch #64 is a great one, and it didn't take me too long to create this layout. I scrapped one of the pictures taken by Florence Bavinck back in September 2007. I am really pleased how this layout turned out. I liked the sketch so much that I created another layout, but I can't show you that one yet.

Digi: In Deep - Lesson 1

It has been a while since I registered myself to the Digi: In Deep class by Jessica Sprague. The class ran in March this year, but I didn't have much time back then to do this class. The good thing about Jessica's classes is that the video tutorials and class content are available forever. So, you can take the classes any time you want. Last evening I was in the mood for some digi scrapping, and downloaded the course materials for week 1. I still prefer scrapping with real papers and embellishments, but I love to do these classes and learn many new techniques in Photoshop. I did the first two classes in Photoshop Elements 6. This time I used Adobe Photoshop CS3 on a Mac which was quite a new experience to me. Here's the layout that I created yesterday. Again I worked with pictures taken by Florence Bavinck.

Busy

I have been pretty busy lately and hardly have time to participate in any of my favorite challenge blogs. Things at work are very hectic, and the same goes for my scrapbooking. Lots of assignments and deadlines to meet. CHA is coming up in a few weeks, and I have to prepare a few projects for Jillibean Soup. I would like to finish my projects next week, so I can send them to Jill in time.

This layout about Sanne was published in Scrapbook Magazine 23. These gorgeous BoBunny patterned papers were taken home straight from CHA by Truike, owner of Paper & Pictures at the end of January. Again I had the privilege to work with the newest papers for the magazine. Can't wait to find out what the manufacturers have in mind for us this summer.

CARDS Toot & True Love

I am very excited to share that my Jillibean Soup Give Thanks card, and ShortCuts It's a Boy card are requested for publication in the November issue of CARDS. It will be my very first publication in CARDS.

The layout below was made for Jillibean Soup. I just love the kraft collections that you can easily combine with one of the other Jillibean Soup collections. This picture of my mom and dad was taken on their wedding day in August 1966. They will be celebrating their 43th anniversary on August 16th this year.

Pubbed Layouts & a Sneak Peek

I worked on several DT assignments this weekend, but unfortunately I can't show you anything yet. Instead, I show you two layouts that were pubbed in issue #23 of Scrapbook Magazine. Thanks to Truike from Paper & Pictures I was one of the very first in the Netherlands who had a chance to work with the Minestrone collection from Jillibean Soup. She got a sampler pack at CHA Winter, and I was the lucky one to create a few projects with the gorgeous papers for her magazine. Minestrone has been my favorite collection since the very beginning. I just love the designs and colors.

This layout is about Sanne. I just love the pictures that were taken on my father-in-law's boat in July 2007. She wears Eric's Australian hat to protect her from the sun.

The second layout is about Sanne too. At the beginning of this year she could finally ride her bike without training wheels. Before that she was just too lazy to try it, and didn't feel like doing it at all. Since she can ride her bike all by herself she loves to go out for a ride.

Week 1 of 2 Sketches 4 You's 1st Annual Ultimate Card Showdown turned out to be a HUGE success. I viewed all 413 (!) entries, and I can tell you it wasn't easy to narrow it down to 30 favorites. There is a lot of talent in the card making world. Later today the 30 finalists will be revealed as well as the Card of the Week and the Fab 5. So.....be sure to check 2 Sketches 4 You later on.

A layout, and Mini Album

Did you all have a good Easter? Ours was v-e-r-y relaxing. The weather was beautiful. The girls spent lots of time outside.

It seems like my creativity is back. Fortunately my scrappers' block didn't last too long. I decided to scrap 8.5x11" layouts instead of 12x12" layouts, and that seemed to help. It has been almost two years ago since I scrapped my first....and last.... 8.5x11" layout. This weekend I made 2 layouts and I have been working on layout #3. I must say that I really like this size. I usually am a slow scrapper and never finish 2 layouts in 2 days. This time I did! I can't show you the layouts yet as they might get published in Scrapbook Magazine. For now I will leave you with the layout that made it to the cover of the February/March issue of Scrapbook Magazine.



And here is the mini album that was published in the same issue. I made this one for my brother and SIL as a gift for the birth of their son Nick.

Now that the new issue of Scrapbook Magazine is in store for almost two weeks I can show you the layouts that were published in issue #21.

On the Fall layouts I used pictures of Fleur and Sanne that were taken by my dear SIL Lisette while we were in the UK last October. We did a photo shoot on the day we arrived. I really like the pictures she took of Fleur and Sanne. The journaling on both pages is the same, but the design and materials are different.

Published Work

I got the new Scrapbook Magazine (#21) in the mail today. I was so thrilled to find out that the 3 layouts and 1 mini album I submitted made it all to the magazine. It is still a bit unreal for me to see my own work in a magazine. Unfortunately I can't showcase my recent projects, but now that the new magazine is out I do can show you the projects that were published in the October/November issue.

This is a mini album about Sanne and her friend Jet who went horse riding with Jet's dad and his colleague Hans. From the moment Sanne was invited the only thing she and Jet could talk about was horses, horses and......horses. The girls had a great time, and I was happy that Jet's dad took pictures that day.

Loooooong post

The past week have gone by really quick. I have been creating a few layouts, but I can't show them yet. I went to Paper & Pictures yesterday to hand them in for the December/January issue of Scrapbook Magazine. The new October Afternoon patterned papers arrived on Thursday and I wanted to have these papers so badly, so......I purchased Weathervane, Hometown and Good Sheer. The papers are so yummy!! I also got back my layouts and cards that were published in Scrapbook Magazine and Cards Only. Not every card or layout made it to the magazine, so I'll post them on my blog in the next few days. I was really glad to get back the layouts that were pubbed in the August/September magazine. Now I could make some new pictures of my projects. Since my laptop crashed early September I lost all my project photos and no.....I hadn't made a back-up. The layouts Family Photo Shoot and Sisters & Best Friends were both pubbed.

I really like this picture that Eric made of Fleur. The hidden journaling is about Eric practising his portrait photography skills. I was on my knees holding a hairdryer, so it looks like her hair is blowing in the wind.

A few months ago I came across some great bright purses on Heidi Swapp's blog. She lives in Beijing and mentioned that she found them on a market. My SIL Li originally comes from Beijing and her parents and sister live in Beijing. Li and my brother had plans to visit Li's family this year, so I sent Heidi an e-mail asking her where in Beijing she found the purses. She replied and gave me the name of the market. Peter and Li spent the past two weeks in Beijing and before they left I sent them the link to Heidi's blog post and asked them to look for a lime and black purse. They printed the picture of the purses, and went shopping at the local market. It didn't take them too long to find the purses. The purses were priced for 32.50 euro ($42), but they got them for only 10 euro ($13) each. These are my new purses...



The black one happens to be a brown one. I didn't notice it at first - and neither did Peter and Li when they bought the purses - but when I put it next to the black one that they bought for my friend Hanneke a few days later I noticed the little difference. I don't really care. I recently purchased a black purse myself, so I am really happy with this brown one.

Last Friday I went to Dolls & Decorations' Halloween Fright Night. The store looked very spooky, and Petra had yummy cupcakes and real American candies and Halloween colored M&Ms. I was glad I weighed in that morning, so I could cheat a little bit on my diet. I have now lost 10kg (22lb). I didn't scrap anything, but had a great time. Here are some pictures taken that night. I am the (sweet) devil with the black/red wig. I really liked my new hairdo. I have been having curls for 39 years, so it is great to have a different hairdo for 1 night. *wink*

This morning Fleur, Sanne and I made some cupcakes. I wanted to try the cupcake mix and icing that I bought last week. There is a store very close to work where they sell all kinds of products to bake and decorate your own (cup)cakes. The look of my cupcakes isn't perfect, but the taste is!!! I know, I know....I am on a diet, but I had to try one. Well......one and a half. I shared one with my brother this afternoon and took another one this evening.



**ETA** I totally forgot to tell that I got a copy of the latest issue of Cards Only magazine last Saturday. Number 4 is a great winter / Christmas issue with lots of gorgeous cards. I still think it is awesome to see your own cards pubbed in a magazine.

Now We're Rocking with Photoshop - Week 3

As we were in the UK last week I didn't have time to do my 3rd assignment for Jessica Sprague's Now We'Re Rocking with Photoshop class. Yesterday evening I had plans scrapping with paper, but instead I worked on a digi layout. I had so much fun working on this layout. I loved working with brushes, and again I learned so many new techniques. Jessica's classes are such a great way to get to know Photoshop Elements. Jessica has so much knowledge about digital scrapbooking and Photoshop Elements, and her tutorials are easy to follow.

I really love the pictures that Lisette made last week, and used them for this layout.

Tattoo Girl

The new issue of Scrapbook Magazine hit the stores last week so now I can show you one of my layouts that was pubbed in the August issue of the magazine. This one is my favorite. Sanne loves to draw 'tattoos' on her arm. The tattoo in this picture was done by Eric at her request, and of course he had to make a picture of Sanne. We often say to each other that it wouldn't surprise us when Sanne comes home one day and says.....SURPRISE!.....and then showing us a real tattoo.

Now We're Rocking with Photoshop - Week 2

It is week 2 of Jessica Sprague's class Now We're Rocking with Photoshop. I made my assignment on Monday evening, but wasn't completely satisfied about my layout. I noticed I made some minor mistakes and wanted to correct them first before I would show the layout on my blog. Well, I did this evening so now I can show it. I hardly have any digital scrapbook kits yet, so I worked with the standard class materials. I like Jessica Sprague's classes a lot. Her tutorials are great and easy to follow, and I learn so much. All kind of tips and techniques in PSE that I wasn't aware of. If you would love to learn more about PSE and digital scrapbooking I strongly recommend Jessica's classes.

Now We're Rocking with Photoshop - Week 1

It has been a while since I did Jessica Sprague's beginner class Up & Running with Photoshop. I really enjoyed that class as it learned me to work with Photoshop Elements 6.0. I wanted to register for the advanced class Now We're Rocking with Photoshop, but was too late to register. Jessica started another Now We're Rocking with Photoshop class last week, and this time I was in time registering. I hadn't had any time until this morning to do the assignment for week 1. Although I prefer to scrap with papers and embellishment I also like digi scrapbooking as it learns me all kinds of techniques in Photoshop Elements. I made this layout about Fleur who loves to play Monopoly with Eric and me. Yesterday we played a game for almost 4 hours. Actually we weren't finished yet, but it was time for the girls to go to bed.

A Few Sneak Peeks

It's Sketch Time

It is June 1st so....time to host another card and layout sketch challenge on the Dolls & Decorations forum. I didn't have to look far for a card sketch this time. Well...geographically spoken it is far.....very far, but actually I found this sketch close to home as the card sketch is designed by my SIL Lisette. She is a great scrapbooker and card maker, and designs gorgeous sketches too.

I also posted a layout sketch. This time I chose the latest Pencil Lines sketch (#86) designed by Michele Beck. The beautiful picture of my handsome sweetheart is taken by Florence Bavinck. Beach

Last summer we spent 2 weeks in France. Fleur and Sanne loved playing on the beach. They could spend hours playing in the water and building sand castles. The new Grafton line by Scenic Route is perfect for beach pictures. Again I used the Prima Build-a-Page sketch designed by Janine Langer.

My First Digi Layout

Jessica Sprague's Up and Running with Photoshop class started today. I hadn't been able to download the course materials this weekend, so had to do it this evening. I also wanted to download a trial version of Photoshop Elements 6.0, so it took me a while to get started on my first digital layout. This first assignment was pretty simple, but I must honestly say that I couldn't have done it myself without Jessica's class. I simply didn't know where to start.....until this evening. Here is my first digital layout.



I am off to bed now. It is almost midnight and I have to get up at 6.15am tomorrow morning.
